A big bang in the city

Get prepared to hunch over your laptop in delight - following the enormous success of the Vogue-sponsored Fashion’s Night Out, tonight sees the launch of… Fashion’s Night In.
Now that I work outside the comforting confines of Zone 1, most of my shopping takes place online anyway, so I feel pretty prepared for a night bathing in the soothing glow of my laptop.
So, what’s the difference between shopping online tonight, and shopping online at any other time? Well, all sorts of special things are set to take place – from virtual consultations and web chats with fashion icons, to free gifts and limited edition goodies.
Vogue have handily compiled a list of everyone that’s taking part – see here for the whole line-up – but these are some of my favourite things:
Exciting live events on My-Wardrobe include a live catwalk show, with pieces you can buy straight away; a Twitter Style Surgery to solve all your fashion dilemmas; and, excitingly, behind-the-scenes (or inside-the-wardrobes) interviews with stylish women, including the marvellous Polly Vernon – I can’t wait to see her clothes collection.
At Browns, there’s free shipping, discounts, and freebies – but best of all, the chance to Skype with Roland Mouret, Vogue’s Kate Phelan and Mrs B herself! Also, anyone in London (well, zones 1-3 – I’d argue anywhere outside that doesn’t deserve it) will get free shipping and champagne!
At Harvey Niknaks, there’s 10% off, live style advice from their personal shoppers, a free Will Broome tote bag (for the first 100 customers anyway), and specially curated bits from Sarah Harris, which are launching on the site for the first time. [PS I love the newly relaunched Harvey Nichols website, it's a marvel.]
There’s a generous 10% off at Liberty tonight, free beauty bits for lucky shoppers, fashion advice through the live web chat, interviews with top notch designers, and lots of competitions too.
At Topshop, you’ll be able to purchase six pieces from Kate Moss’s final collection, ahead of the full launch. If you do venture out of the house [spoilsport], Kate herself will be at the Oxford Circus branch to celebrate her last collection, with DJs and cocktails on hand.
Of course ASOS is doing something for FNI. Free delivery, 20% off dresses, competitions, Twitter chats with Richard Nicoll, Louise Gray and ASOS head of womenswear design, Sarah Wilkinson. ASOS has also made a Spotify playlist (a company after my own heart), special cocktail, and a downloadable invite, designed by Louise Gray, so all your friends can be in the same virtual place at the same time.
Space.NK and Net-A-Porter are also promising online treats, but they both seem a bit hush-hush at the moment. Eyes peeled!
All the brands involved will also be donating a chunk of their profits to the Kids Co. charity.
